The Royal Church, one of the largest sacred buildings in the locality, was built by Mrs. Dafina, the wife of the Moldavian ruler Eustrație Dabija (1661-1665). Originally built of wood between 1665-1670, at the end of the 18th century it was rebuilt in stone and later restored twice, in 1840 and 1937. The murals blend harmoniously with paintings of high artistic value, and in inside it are housed sacred objects and old books written in Cyrillic.
A local legend claims that Mrs. Dafina, arriving in Focșani with her husband, would have given birth to a little girl whom they named Paraschiva. To commemorate this event, she contributed to the construction of this church dedicated to Pious Paraschiva.
