Until 1781, the Romanians from Şcheii Brașovului had only one church, the Church of Saint Nicholas. After numerous requests, they received approval to build a second church in 1812. Construction of the stone church began in 1824 and was completed in 1831.

After the completion of the construction of the church, priest Voinea Pitiș placed a parchment soaked in oil at the top of the tower, containing notes containing valuable information about the history of Brașov.

The church was built in the Gothic style, has a length of 35 meters, a width of 11.5 meters and a height of 32 meters. In 1857, the architect Ștefan Emilian made the layout plan for the church premises, and the watchmaker Alexandru Râșnoveanu made the clock in the church tower.

The painting of the church was done by the painters Mişu Popp and Constantin Lecca. The mural painting in the altar is attributed to Costantin Lecca, and the rest of the painting is attributed to Mişu Popp. The painting was restored in 2001-2003 by painter restorer Nicolae Sava.

Near the church is the "Grădina lui Șimăn" cemetery. In this cemetery, numerous important people from Şcheii Brașov are buried, among them priest Bonifatie Pitiș, Nicolae Chicomban, Ioan Vătășan, professors I.C. Panțu, Gheorghe Prejmerean, Ion Dariu, the botanist Dumitru Lupan, the philologist Constantin Lacea, Vasile Greceanu (Andrei Mureșianu's son-in-law) and the musician Tudor Ciortea. Until 1883, the bones of the poet Andrei Mureșianu were also buried in this cemetery, which were later moved to Groaveri, to the Saint Parascheva Church.

20 years after the death of Andrei Mureșanu, Romanians from Brașov erected a funeral monument in the Groaveri cemetery. The monument contains the following inscription: Poet Laureate Andrei Mureșanu 1816-1863. Romanians from Brașov 1883. The monument also contains an inscription Suzana Andrei Mureșianu rests here, the initiator and first president of the Romanian Women's Meeting to help poor widows from Brașov and Săcele.

In the churchyard is a heroes' mausoleum, designed in a circular form, with an eagle on the roof spire, and containing the remains of about 200 soldiers. On the frontispiece of the monument is written the text Mausoleum of the heroes of the First World War for the liberation of the country
