Located between Cernavodă and Medgidia, the commune of Mircea Vodă is crossed by important Dobrogen road and railway communication routes, as well as by the Danube - Black Sea Canal. The settlement was formed by the settlement of families of Turks and Tatars from Crimea. The old name, Cilibichioi, indicates the foundation of the village by a certain Cilibi (Cilibi = distinguished man; chioi = village).

After the return of Dobrogea to Romania, Romanian families also joined. For the Orthodox Romanians, the Church of the Holy Emperors Constantine and Elena was built. Along with the laying of the Cernavodă-Constanța railway line, the Mircea Vodă railway station was built, in memory of ruler Mircea the Elder. The stations were made of brick, faced with yellowish-white limestone slabs, inlaid with various designs. At that time, a small grain and cattle fair was organized in Mircea Vodă.

The fair kept an oriental appearance and was served by the barges from the Carasu valley, which went to Medgidia. The station became a landmark in the development of the settlement, being transited by trains that traveled to Constanța. The settlement, originally developed along the road, expanded towards the railway station. In 1931, the entire settlement was named Mircea Vodă, keeping the distinction between Mircea Vodă-Village and Mircea Vodă-Gară.

In 2001, with the blessing of Archbishop Teodosie, it was decided to found a monastery within the Mircea Vodă Memorial Settlement, to commemorate the heroes in the church founded in 1928, where more than 5000 soldiers of different nationalities are buried.

The "Anălțarea Domnului" monastery owns the International Cemetery of fallen heroes during the First World War by concession from the Cult of Heroes Association.
