The Nemira massif is located in the east-southeast of the Eastern Carpathians and is part of the Trotuș Mountains, positioned between the valleys of the Uz rivers, to the north, and the Oituz, to the south. It is located in the southeast of the Ciuc Mountains and marks the border between the counties of Bacău, Covasna and Harghita.

This mountain massif is mainly formed by Cretaceous flysch, especially the one with a sandy structure (typical of the Tarcău facies), but also by calcareous schists. It is distinguished by a pronounced massiveness, being structured on a main ridge whose altitudes gradually decrease from north to south. Several peaks that exceed the altitude of 1,600 meters emerge from this ridge, such as Nemira Mare (1,649 m – the highest point of the massif), Șandru Mare (1,640 m) and Nemira Țiganca (1,626 m).

The petrographic structure is clearly reflected in the relief by the appearance of steep slopes and ridges connected to each other by saddles. To the east, the Nemira peak ends in a steepness of about 600 meters, which emphasizes the imposing appearance of the massif.

The Nemira massif has an important hydrographic role, being the place of origin for several rivers, including the Casin, Izvoru Negru, Dofteana, Slănic and the Negru River (the latter, a tributary of the Olt). In addition to this role, the area also has tourist value due to its attractive landscape and recreational potential.

The slopes of the massif are predominantly covered with beech forests, which harmoniously intertwine with areas of coniferous trees, especially spruce and fir. The high formations of the Nemira massif frame the Dărmănești Depression to the west and watch over the well-known Slănic-Moldova spa resort, located at the southeastern foot of Șandru Mare peak.
