The Dognecei Mountains, with its two lakes, Mare and Mic, lie in the northwestern part of the Banat Mountains, between the Caraș and Bârzava rivers. Although they are often referred to as "work", due to their modest altitude (about 600 meters, with the highest point at Culmea Mare, 617 meters), this area offers a special beauty. The lakes of Dognecea are special both for their age, being built around 1750, and for their peaceful atmosphere and enchanting landscape, similar to a corner of heaven.

The Great Lake was formed by damming the Dognecea stream, resulting in an expanse of water of 6.2 hectares, with a maximum depth of 9 meters in the area known as "La Zid". The Little Lake, located at a lower altitude, was created artificially, by building a stone dam. It has a smaller surface and a maximum depth of 8 meters. The two lakes are connected to each other by means of the Căuna Mică river.

Lac Mic is surrounded by a lush forest, dominated by beeches and hornbeams. In the past, it was also known as the "Lily Lake" due to the presence of abundant aquatic vegetation, with white flowers adorning the surface of the water.

In this area, in the Dognecei Mountains, more precisely in the town of Calina, there is a spring famous for the quality of its natural mineral water. According to the classification of the World Water Organization, this water is considered the second purest in Europe, after that of Evian.
