The park of the Ștefan Golescu villa stands out for the presence of a nature reserve that houses exotic plants. With an area of 0.5 hectares, it is home to an impressive diversity of exotic trees and plants, acclimatized to the altitude of 500 meters, which is an unusual achievement.
Notable specimens include Gingko biloba, an endangered Tertiary tree (about 200,000,000 years old) brought to Europe from China in the 18th century, as well as Sophora japonica, a member of of the same family as the acacia, introduced to Europe in 1747.
This corner of nature was shaped in the first decades of our century by the efforts of the engineer and botanist Vasile Golescu, the son of Alexandru G. Golescu (known as Arăpilă), one of the leading figures of the revolution of 1848 in Wallachia, a patriot and close collaborator of Nicolae Bălcescu.
