The Maramureșean Village Museum is located on Doboieș Hill, 3 km from the center of Sighetu Marmații, at the exit to Vadu Izei. It was inaugurated in 1981 and represents a traditional Maramureş village, gathering the most representative monuments of popular architecture and peasant technical installations.

The museum houses restored and preserved valuable monuments of folk architecture, most of them dating from the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The houses and households were grouped according to the historical sub-areas of Maramureș, highlighting the architectural evolution in diachrony and synchrony.

The museum is internationally recognized, being part of the ICOM and UNESCO networks. Important European conferences have been held here, and in 2019 it was awarded 2 out of 3 Michelin Guide stars along with other museums in the country.
