Tihuța Pass (or Bârgău Pass) is a pass located in the north of the Eastern Carpathians, at an altitude of 1201 m, in the Bârgău Mountains. It is located on the DN17 national road (part of the European Road E58) and connects the Dornelor Depression and the Transylvanian Hill Depression. The pass is found between Măgura Calului (1229 m) and Piatra Fântânele Mountain (1067 m).
Historically, the old commercial road was abandoned at the beginning of the 19th century, and the current road was built between 1812-1817 at the initiative of the War Council of the Austro-Hungarian Army. The road was concreted and paved in 1969.
The Bârgău Pass also appears in the map made after the third Austrian survey (1869-1887) and is mentioned in the novel "Dracula" by Bram Stoker, as the place where Jonathan Harker is expected to be taken to the castle of the count.
