The Lipovian church in Iași was built in the 19th century, on the site of a wooden church built in 1780. It was originally on the right bank of the Bahlui, but was moved to the left bank after the river's course was changed.
The church was rebuilt in brick in 1830, but the tower and belfry remained wooden. In 1866, the church was destroyed by fire, along with all its objects. Until the reopening of the church, the "St. Apostles Peter and Paul", which remained functional in the future.
The church was rebuilt between 1872-1882, according to the plans of the architect Ştefan Emilian, by public subscription. Currently, the church possesses a series of valuable icons, made in the traditional style of Russian church art.
The church is a tall, imposing building with seven towers. It has three entrances: one on the western side (for women), one on the northern side (used only on special occasions) and another on the southern side, for men. The largest towers are above the nave and above the closed porch (the latter being also the belfry). Each of the seven towers carries a cross specific to this cult at the top. The apses of the nave are straight, only that of the altar is semicircular.
The church was rebuilt in 1959 and 1989, through the contribution of the parishioners. Currently, repair and improvement works are being carried out on the walls and roof, the construction being affected by earthquakes and the passage of time.
