It is the last building that closes, to the north, Piața Hercules, at the end of Romană Street.
In 1768, Emperor Joseph II, the son of Empress Maria Theresa, requested the construction of a round Catholic chapel that was destroyed in 1788 by the Turks.
The Roman Catholic church is dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God and was built between 1836-1838, during the reign of Emperor Ferdinand I. It was renovated between 1997-2000.
Together with her entourage, Empress Elisabeth (Sisi) attended the services at the Catholic Chapel, on Passion Week and Easter, as well as on the other Sundays during her six-week stay in 1887 at the Herculaneum Baths. During the stay of the empress, the service of the Roman Catholic parish priest was performed by Emil de Folly, the canon from Timisoara.
The parish house was built between 1992-2000. The parish in Băile Herculane has three branches under its administration: Mehadia, Topleţ and Şumita.
