Located in the extreme north of Romania, in the eastern part of the Maramureș Depression, near the Prislop Pass, the "St. Nicholas" Monastery is an ideal place to find peace and inner peace.
The "St. Nicholas" monastery is located in a picturesque area, on a hill called "Poiana Mare" in Baia Borșa. It is located on Energiei street, at number 38A, 500 meters from the main road that connects Borșa to Baia Borșa, being accessible from Borșa on a 7 kilometer road.

After much prayer, God gave them twin children. As a token of thanks, they promised to build a monastery.
The monastery was built on the land donated by Nicolae and Rozica Oancea and with the direct support of the Stetcu Toader family. The foundation stone was laid on May 21, 2001, and the construction lasted five months, ending on October 26, 2001. During 2004-2006, the iconostasis was made, and between 2007-2010, the church was decorated with Byzantine painting.
The "St. Nicholas" monastic complex includes the large wall church, the monastic house with 12 cells, the kitchen, the refectory which also functions as a chapel during the winter, a building for the thermal plant and the wood shed, a wood store and a garage. On the lower plateau is a livestock outhouse and a hayloft. The monastery holds part of the relics of the Holy Fathers killed in Sinai by the Persians and has a congregation of 5 living.
