Maglavit Monastery is located in Dolj County, near the Danube. Its history begins in 1935, when the shepherd Petrache Lupu claims that God appeared to him three Fridays in a row. He orders the shepherd to preach love and faith in God, and Petrache Lupu begins to perform miracles.
The events attract the attention of public opinion, and in 1935 the foundation of a church is laid at the place where God appeared to Petrache Lupu. The original project called for an impressive church with seven towers, but construction was halted in 1940 due to the outbreak of World War II.
After the war, the monastery was abolished by the communist regime and Petrache Lupu was arrested and persecuted. In 1990, after the fall of communism, the monastery was re-established and the church was completed in 2017.
Currently, the monastery is a place of pilgrimage for believers from all over the country.
