The foundation of the monastery began in 1994, on the place where it is believed that there was a monastic community since the time of Voivode Besarab I. The first abbot was the monk Filip Tohaneanu, who, after the consecration of the place, tried to erect a body of cells (July 1994). The second abbot, Hieromonk Hristofor Dumitrascu, came from the Peştera Ialomicioarei monastery and, together with a small community of monks and brothers, maintained the monastic order in this monastery for about a year.
Starting with 1997, the construction of the monastery church and the three cell bodies, in Brancoven style, along with the household annexes, was initiated. The painting of the monastery was done by professor Sorin George Nicolae, from Bucharest, in Byzantine style. It is worth noting the presence in the monastery church of a copy painted after the miracle-working icon Odighitria from Mount Atos.
The church of the monastery, with Byzantine-style painting, was demolished on August 24, 1997, the monastic complex now being composed of three cells and the household annexes of the monastery. In the church of the monastery there is also a reliquary with the holy relics of: St. Great Martyr Mercurius, St. Martyrs Sergius and Vah, Prov, Tarah and Andronicus, St. 40 Martyrs from Sevastia, St. 20,000 children killed by Herod , as well as a small particle from the vestment of St. Ioan Iacob Hozevitul.
At the initiative of the Most Reverend Father Archbishop and Metropolitan NIFON, a new body of cells was built and works were carried out to consolidate and expand the church, including a new vestibule and vestry.
