In 1926, the lon and Sofia Doboşan family donated a villa to the Diocese of Caransebeș to become a rest house for priests.  The villa's initial capacity of 24 rooms was expanded, starting in 1935, to 40 rooms.

During the communist period, it functioned as a hotel, and after it was taken over by the Diocese of Caransebes, in 1998, it became a monastic and social settlement.  On December 27, 1999, the chapel of the monastic-social settlement was consecrated by His Holiness Dr. Laurentiu Streza, Bishop of Caransebeș.

In 2007, the Metropolitan Synod of the Metropolis of Banat, under the care of His Holiness Father Bishop Lucian, elevated the monastic-social establishment from Băile Herculane to the rank of a monastery.  On December 4, 2010, in addition to the existing patron saint, the second patron saint of the monastery, Holy Martyr Varvara, was added.
