The Monastery of "Sfântul Ilie Tesviteanul" - Piscul Negru is located in a clearing at the foot of the Lespezi massif, in the area known as Piscu Negru, at an altitude of 1200 meters. This monastery is one of the most important tourist attractions located along the famous Transfăgărășan mountain road.
Arriving at the monastery, you will be impressed by the beauty of the place. It is surrounded by dense forests and high mountains covered with fir trees, and about 100 meters to the north you can hear the soothing murmur of the Capra River. All these elements contribute to creating a peaceful atmosphere, suitable for monastic life.
The construction of the monastery took place between 1994 and 2015, on land donated by a family from the town of Albeștii de Argeș.
It is said that the construction of the monastery took place in memory of those who perished during the construction works of the Transfăgărășan road.
The financing of the construction of the church was supported by the Diocese of Argeș, along with numerous believers who contributed with donations.
The church is divided into four spaces: altar, nave, narthex and a closed porch. The altar receives light through a window facing east and has, on the right side, a small room intended for liturgical vestments. The tabernacle, built of wall and high up to the vault, has imperial and deacon doors made of carved oak. The connection with the narthex is made through an arch supported on two lateral pillars attached to the walls. The interior of the church is painted in the fresco technique.
The Romanian Orthodox Church honors the Holy Great Prophet Elijah of Tesvites every year, on July 20.
Saint Elijah is one of the essential figures of the Old Testament, being considered the protector of the harvests. He is revered as a miracle worker and bringer of rain during periods of drought.
The Monastery of Saint Elijah the Prophet - Piscu Negru is located in Argeș County, in the town of Piscu Negru, on the national road DN7C. The distances from other important points are: 70.5 km to Curtea de Argeș, 47.5 km to the village of Căpățâneni and 15.5 km to the Bâlea Lac chalet.
