In the Apuseni Mountains, in Valea Bistrei, which is part of the town of Câmpeni, is the Valea Bistrei Monastery, dedicated to "Holy Hierarchs Ilie Iorest and Sava Brancovici," celebrated on April 24. The monastery is located in the Deanery of Câmpeni, Orthodox Archdiocese of Alba Iulia. This holy place is less known due to its recent appearance and its less visible location and difficult to access in bad weather conditions.
Initially, the monastery functioned as a hermitage for nuns, but in 2012 it was elevated to the status of a monastery. Its history begins in 1998, when a family donated a plot of land for the construction of a hermitage. Work began in 2000, and in 2001, the hermitage became operational. Currently, the monastery has 5 nuns under the leadership of Protosinghel Mihail Vasilache.
Access to the monastery is through a difficult road with steep slopes, but this place offers peace and an atmosphere close to God. Inside the monastery, there is a small wooden church, cells and a well-tended garden.
The day of April 24 is special at the monastery, because it celebrates the Holy Hierarchs Ilie Iorest and Sava Brancovici, who defended the Orthodox faith during a difficult period in the history of Transylvania. These metropolitans of Transylvania were beaten and falsely accused by the Calvinist leaders, but remained devoted to the Orthodox faith. In conclusion, the monastery is a place of peace and prayer with an interesting history and a wonderful natural setting in the Apuseni Mountains.
