The Iezer Reserve, established by the decision of the People's Council of Argeș County, is located in the Iezer-Păpușa massif, occupying the glacial valley of Cățun and Iezer, including the peak of Iezerul Mare. This massif, located between the Râul Doamnei and Dâmbovița valleys, includes peaks that frequently exceed 2200 m, with peaks such as Iezerul Mare (2463 m) and Roșu (2473 m).
The cryogenic and nival relief, with various forms such as cirques and glacial valleys, harbors numerous floristic and faunal rarities. In the protected areas, you can find species such as juniper, mountain anise, mountain willow, cypress, and mountain peony, together with associations of argentica, hen's eye, mountain cypress and other alpine plants.
The reserve is accessible by various routes, including the Pitesti-Câmpulung road and the Rucăr-Bran corridor. Visitors can explore Lake Iezer, oligotrophic bogs and numerous moss species. Nearby is the town of Câmpulung Muscel, with valuable historical monuments, and the tourist routes offer various options for exploring the Iezer-Păpușa massif.
