A mountain range located in the southern part of the Făgăraș Mountains, positioned between the upper reaches of the Argeș and Vâlsan rivers.
This range is mainly composed of gneisses and amphibole schists, metamorphic rocks specific to the region. Its maximum altitude reaches 1,632 meters. To the northeast, this range delimits the Arefu Depression.
