The Golești Paleontological Reserve is a protected natural area of national interest, classified in the IVth category of the IUCN, which means that it is a natural reserve with a paleontological character. It is located in Vâlcea county, within the Golești commune.
This natural area is located in the Vâlcii Subcarpathians, which are part of the Getic Subcarpathians, in the Sâmnic valley basin. It is located at an average altitude of approximately 500 meters, in the southern area of the Poenița village.
The reserve was designated as a protected area by Law No. 5 of March 6, 2000. It consists of a landslide located on the right slope of the Sâmnic stream, where deposits of vertebrate and invertebrate fossils from the Meotian period are found, as well as fossilized traces of leaves of some plants dating back to the Neozoic era.
