The Bârlad is a river located in eastern Romania, which flows into the Siret River on the left side, approximately 4 km downstream of the town of Liești, in Galați County. It has a total length of 207 km and a drainage basin area of 7,220 km².

The river has its source in Dealul Bour, located in the Central Moldavian Plateau, at an altitude of 370 m, before the commune of Valea Ursului in Neamț County. Its average slope is 1.4 meters per kilometer, and the average multiannual flow varies considerably: from 0.20 m³/s in the source area to 7 m³/s near the confluence with the Siret.

Characterized by a low flow, with pronounced meanders and large level fluctuations, the Bârlad is prone to frequent floods, especially in the lower part of its course. In the upper part, the river presents a pronounced asymmetry towards the left, influenced by the presence of the Tutova Hills on the right, which makes it resemble, as a route, a question mark.

The river crosses the entire Bârlad Plateau and flows through the city of Negrești, as well as the municipalities of Vaslui, Bârlad and Tecuci. Its main tributaries include the Rebricea, Vasluiul and Crasna on the left, and the Berheciul, Buda, Racova and Tutova on the right.
