The "Sânpaul Bird Stop" Nature Reserve occupies 10 hectares and is a protected natural area of avifaunistic interest. It is part of the Dealurile Homoroadelor area, which belongs to the European Natura 2000 network.
It has been declared a natural area to protect and conserve migratory and nesting bird species, but also to maintain the diversity of native flora and fauna and wetland habitats.
The reserve is a wetland with sedges and ponds, where hydrophilic plants such as reeds and sedges are found, which provide ideal feeding and nesting conditions for migratory birds, some of which are protected at European level or included in the IUCN Red List.
More than 260 species of birds have been observed here, which is a rarity on such a small area in Europe. More than 70 of these species nest here, many of which are protected by law. Among the most important species are the common plover, great egret, red heron, black stork, ruddy duck, reed egrets and nuthatches.
Bird photography is allowed only from specially designed observatories, and sport fishing can only be practiced in designated areas.
