The Budeasa Dam and Reservoir are located on the Argeș River, in the Budeasa commune, and are managed by ABA Argeș Vedea. They are part of a complex hydrotechnical system aimed at the development of the Argeș River.
Located a short distance from the city, Lake Budeasa attracts many people who want a break from the daily hustle and bustle and want to spend time in nature. Those who visit the area can practice recreational sport fishing, based on a permit, or can simply enjoy the natural landscape.
The Budeasa Dam and Reservoir are mainly used to supply drinking and industrial water to the city of Pitești, for flood protection, for the production of electricity and for providing water for irrigation in the downstream areas.
The construction of this hydrotechnical system was completed and put into operation in 1978. The reservoir is 5.5 km long to the Merișani power plant. The right bank is protected by a 4,625 m long dam, and the left bank is supported by a 934 m long dam, complemented by a natural terrace over a distance of 2,500 m. When full, the lake covers an area of 643 hectares.
Near the dam is the Bascov – Budeasa National Sports Complex, a nautical base specially designed for training national and Olympic teams, but also for holding national and international sports competitions.
The Budeasa reservoir is located in the central area of Argeș County, in the middle basin of the Argeș River, approximately 5 kilometers north of the city of Pitești.
