The complex reserve on the northern slope of the Frumoasa-Cindrel platform (2168-2245 m) includes three glacial cirques: Oropata, Iezerul Mic and Iezerul Mare, and the Iubea Rășinarului cirque on the eastern slope. Alpine bulls were formed only in the Iezerul Mare and Iezerul Mic circuses.
The Cindrel Glacier area has a varied fauna, including black goats, bears, wolves and 29 species of birds. On the plateau above the cirques nests the endemic glacial relic Endromias morinellus, an important attraction of the region.
