Chirița Lake is an artificial dam lake located in the meadow area of the Moldavian Plain, located in the northeastern part of the city of Iași, near the localities of Dancu and Valea Lungă, which belong to the Holboca commune. It was built on the Chirița River.
The Chirița Dam has the role of ensuring drinking water reserves for the city of Iași. Within the Chirița treatment complex, water coming either from the Prut River or from Chirița Lake is subjected to the treatment process, the processing capacity of the station being between 0.6 and 1.15 cubic meters per second.
The Chirița Reservoir, which covers an area of 78 hectares, was declared a natural reserve and a natural monument according to Law no. 5 of March 6, 2000, which regulates the National Spatial Planning Plan - Section III, dedicated to protected areas. The lake's surface is protected by law, with activities such as bathing or fishing prohibited.
