The Mocioni Mansion in Foeni, located 42 kilometers from Timișoara, is one of the oldest buildings in the Banat region and will be restored with the help of funds from Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.
Built in 1750, the mansion in Foeni, Timiș County, was one of the five residences of the Mocioni family, a prominent family that played an essential role in the political life of Romanians in Banat for approximately 80 years. The restoration of the building is possible thanks to a grant provided by Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein through the Ro-Cultura program. After the establishment of the communist regime in Romania, the building was nationalized and had several uses over time: it was transformed into a communal bath, then into a kindergarten, warehouse and gym. After 1990, a disco operated in the mansion, which later became a cultural center. In recent years, however, the building has not been used.
The mansion is currently owned by the Timiș County Council, which has obtained a funding of 2.6 million euros. The restoration and re-functionalization works of the building are to be completed by April 2024.
