With the will of the Father, with the help of the Son and with the accomplishment of the Holy Spirit, this sanctuary was started and built in the name of the Holy Hierarch Nicolai by Voivode Iliaș 1546-1551, the son of Petru Rareș and it was renewed by his treasurer Nicoară Prăjescu in 1611.

In the years 1974-1980, it was restored according to the project of D.M.I.A Bucharest, in the days of His Beatitude Patriarch Iustin, His Holiness Teoctist, Metropolitan of Moldavia and Suceava, designer architect Nicolae Diaconu, priest Severin Brăteanu.

Saint Nicholas Church, one of the oldest churches in Suceava, was founded by Iliaş Rareş, the son of ruler Petru Rareş. Although the first documentary attestation is around 1611, the church "St. Nicolae" is mentioned for the first time in 1519, in a Tetraevangel.

Although the construction follows the style prevalent in Moldova of that period, it has certain distinctive features, both architectural (such as the bell tower) and murals, which distinguish it and place it before other churches and monasteries.
