The "Resurrection of the Lord" Church in Suceava, also known as the Văscresenia Church or the Lady Elena Church, is an Orthodox church built in 1551, located in the city center on Ana Ipătescu Boulevard no. 14.
It was included on the List of historical monuments in Suceava county in 2015.
Archaeological research in 1983 revealed the existence of successive wooden and brick constructions on the same site from the second half of the 14th century to the mid-16th century, including two wooden churches destroyed by fire and a stone church built in the 15th century.
The current church was founded in 1551 by Elena Rareș, the wife of Petru Rareș, and has an inscription in the Slavonic language above the entrance door, attesting to this foundation.
In 1775, after the annexation of Bucovina by the Habsburg Empire, the church was given to the Roman Catholic community from Suceava. Starting from 1782, the church was adapted for Catholic worship, various architectural changes being made.
The Roman Catholic faithful built their own church in 1836-1837, and the church was used by the Ruthenian Greek Catholic community. In 1923, the church was returned to the Orthodox cult after the intervention of Metropolitan Visarion Puiu and a legal dispute.
After the Second World War, the church served various purposes, including as a chapel for the Suceava Military Garrison and the Faculty of Orthodox Theology. Starting in 1957, it became a parish church.
The restorations of 1957 and 1982-1989 sought to restore the church to its original form, and the church was re-consecrated in 1989. After the Revolution of 1989, a chapel and a chapel were added to the churchyard in honor of the martyred heroes.
The church is built of rough stone and brick, measuring 21.40 m long and 5.80 m wide inside, and 24.40 m long and 8.50 m wide outside, with a height of 16 meters.
The churchyard houses a belfry, a rare element in Romanian architecture, found only in the north of Moldova. The church still has a Gospel printed in Lviv in 1644.
