The "Saint Stelian" Church in Chitorani was built in 1797, founded by the cupbearer Constantin Cantacuzino, who had previously held the position of steward in Ploiești.
The place of worship was built in the late Brancoveanu style, an architectural style specific to that period, appreciated for its elegance and decorative details. The interior painting was done by apprentices who came from the school of the famous painter Parvu Mutu, which gives the church a special artistic value.
Over time, the church has been seriously affected by several earthquakes, as well as by the destruction caused by the two world wars. For this reason, the place is currently in urgent need of restoration work, in order to preserve its historical and artistic value.
