Casa Fronius

Long ago, the Fronius family, an old Saxon family, built one of the few houses that managed to survive the great fire that engulfed the Citadel in 1676.

A sign of the high social status of this family was the fountain in the inner courtyard of the house, which helped save the building during the disaster. In fact, this construction would become, centuries later, a true treasure of the old Citadel. On the facade of the house, a Latin inscription, made after the fire in the 17th century, is still preserved today, as a sign of gratitude to the divinity.

Today, the Fronius Residence includes a total of 11 rooms, each arranged in a unique way, differing in both size and decoration style. In some rooms, the Gothic-style ceilings still bear the traces of the former fire. These are crossed by carved stone arches, and in some places fragments of the original painting, carefully restored, can be seen. The door closing mechanisms have been preserved in their original form. The furniture, carefully chosen piece by piece from various regions of Transylvania, is old and harmonizes with the authentic spirit of the house. The imposing bathrooms, made of natural materials, subtly combine old and modern elements, offering an experience of complete comfort to visitors.

The former cellar has been transformed into a small bar, and its tables still bear the traces of the passage of time, some of them bearing inscriptions dating back to 1822 or 1900. The authentic dowry chests, old beams, mirror games, stone-paved streets, ogives and arches contribute to the outline of an atmosphere full of historical charm, stimulating the imagination of those who step into this place and transposing them into a fairy-tale world, with knights and princesses. The fountain is considered a true treasure of the house, being one of only two functional fountains left in the entire Citadel. The reception also preserves the imprint of past times. The high ceilings and delicate stained glass windows introduce guests to a special universe, arousing their interest and desire to discover more.
