Dr. Ioan Mihalyi de Apșa Memorial House is a museum organized in the house where Ioan Mihalyi de Apșa (1844-1914) lived and worked, and has been open since 1984. The building is listed on the List of Historical Monuments and is located in the historical center of Sighetu Marmației municipality, close to the Reformed Calvinist Church. The house has a rich history, being extended in 1882 and having an "L" type architecture with a classicist facade and balcony.
 
Ioan Mihalyi was born in 1844 and studied in various cities, including the University of Pest. He became a doctor in legal sciences and a member of the Romanian Academy. He contributed significantly to the collection and publication of medieval documents from Maramureș, in his work "History of Maramureș County."
 
The memorial house preserves part of the life and activity of Ioan Mihalyi de Apșa, including the history of the Association for the Culture of the Romanian People in Maramureș, the meetings of the "Dragoșiana" Reading Society and his support of the Preparandia institution. He was also an active supporter of artists and got involved in the cultural and social life of the Romanians in Maramureș.
